Some dogs were born inclined to silky smooth fur, and some less so. Regardless, it's always a smart move to give your dog a trim and check up on its claws every now and then to prevent any possible problems that could arise. If you have the know-how and the time, and more importantly, a dog that's willing to sit still, that's great! But if not, it's probably best to leave it to the professionals, who won't give your doggo the worst bad hair day imaginable.
